Is there anyone who hasn't just been cast in an upcoming movie this week? Maybe there's some kind of work programme going on in Hollywood to keep 'em all satisfied because just about everyone in tinseltown seems to be confirming new film roles, whether it be Chris Pine, Amanda Seyfried, Reese Witherspoon, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Chloe Moretz or Joel Edgerton.
First up is Captain Kirk himself. Seems Chris Pine won't be out of work long after Star Trek (would he ever with that Hunk of the Year persona?) as The Hollywood Reporter says that he's just joined the cast of Z for Zachariah alongside Amanda Seyfried. The sci-fi film is a post nuclear war story following the few survivors left on earth. We are already predicting a stupefyingly handsome baby to come out of all the on-set magic that could happen with these two stunners. Look at them both, that's genetic magic.
Meanwhile, Deadline has been catching up on all the gossip at Cannes, and reports that Reese Witherspoon, star of the infamous 'don't you know who I am' arrest tape, has been cast in Inherent Vice. Reuniting with her Walk the Line co-star Joaquin Phoenix - an actor who rather enjoys a bit of art house film - Witherspoon will help bring Thomas Pynchon's 2009 novel to life, with filming beginning this month. Her role is yet to be confirmed but it already sounds like a potential Oscar winner to us.
Maybe Joaquin Phoenix is the missing link in some of this great casting, as his Master co-star Philip Seymour Hoffman has also nabbed himself a space God's Pocket. This is not where the name dropping ends as, according to Variety, Mad Men's silver fox John Slattery will write and direct the film, while his small screen co-star Christina Hendricks will make an appearance.
Meanwhile Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby) is securing his rise to the big leagues with his role in Black Mass alongside Johnny Depp. Made by the producer of Donnie Brasco, the film follows the story of Boston gangster Whitey Bulger (Depp) and his FBI friend (Edgerton). Filming is due to begin this summer.
And last but by no means least, Chloe Moretz. Variety says the Carrie star has just joined The White Circus; an imaginative reworking of war films. Her Hugo co-star Asa Butterfield will also star, while Terry Gilliam will produce. The film will begin shooting in Germany and Serbia in February 2014.
Anyone else looking forward to heading to the cinema next year?
