After departing Two And a Half Men and landing Anger Management after that, Charlie Sheen hasn't really had a chance to flex his considerable dramatic talent since then.

Keep in mind that in the '80s, Sheen was considered a promising actor and with turns in the likes of Platoon, Wall Street and Lucas - so it's not all that surprising that he's turning in the screen adaptation of a critically-acclaimed play. The big surprise, however, is that the film - and the play it's based on - is a recreation of voicemails left by people trapped inside the World Trade Center on 9/11, something that Charlie Sheen's pretty outspoken about in the past.

Charlie Sheen is a well-known advocate of the 9/11 Truth Movement, and believes that the World Trade Centre attack was staged by President George W. Bush. Not only that, Sheen pleaded with President Obama to reopen the files on the 9/11 Commission and begin a new investigation into the attacks.

So, why's he starring in a film about an attack that he believes was staged? Who knows, really. By all accounts, it doesn't appear that Sheen's views on the matters have changed, and as recently as 2009, Sheen was still firmly in the jet-fuel-can't-melt-steel-beams camp. So what changed? Who knows.

In any event, 9/11 is getting a wide release in the US from September 8th, however there's no word on whether or not it'll be released on this side of the Atlantic.

Here's the first poster.
