Catherine Zeta-Jones is in final negotiations to join the cast of director Adam Shankman’s musical Rock of Ages, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Zeta-Jones won an Oscar for her work in the musical Chicago, which set in motion a series of other musically themed productions that seemed all but done after the high profile flop, Nine. She'll apparently play the villain of the story, and someone who wasn't in the original stage version. Shankman has previously directed the very well received adaptation of Hairspray.

Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti and Julianne Hough all star in the film.
