In casting news today, it's been confirmed officially that Kurt Russell is on to star in the seventh installment of Fast & Furious. There's no official word as yet of what Russell's role will be, but all we know is that we're excited. Director James Wan has said that he wants the next Fast & Furious film to have a "seventies, revenge-thriller feel" to it. Putting Kurt Russell in the mix should go a long way to that goal, we think. Did you see Death Proof? We actually kinda liked it, it's one of those overly-maligned films that nobody gives a chance.
Tobey Maguire has signed to play the troubled chess genius Bobby Fischer. Edward Zwick, director of The Last Samurai, Defiance and mammy's favourite Legends of the Fall, will be telling the story of Fischer's famous battle with Russian Boris Spassky. We're also hearing that X-Men Origins' Liev Schrieber and Blue Jasmine's Peter Sarsgaard are also in negotiations to join the cast. Schrieber will be playing Spassky and Sarsgaard is set to play a priest. The film will be called 'Pawn Sacrifice' and there's no word on a release date yet.
Gerard Butler is in negotiations to star in fantasy adventure Gods of Egypt. In what sounds like an Egyptian Clash of the Titans, Butler will hopefully be playing Set, the Egyptian god of storms, the desert and "foreigners". Way to be politically correct, Egyptian mythology. Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has signed on to play Horus and will be directed by I, Robot's Alex Proyas. Again, no word on a release date.
