OK everybody, brace yourselves, the screen debut of what is sure to be a modern day classic and an acting feat is set to be in cinemas in the near future. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is in production. We know, we know, mind-blowing. It was Chevy Chase's Brando role to be sure. Joining the cast of the sequel to the 2010 sci-fi comedy movie is Community's Gillian Jacobs. According to Deadline, Jacobs will play the female lead in the film opposite new star Adam Scott. The stuff of dreams...
On a more serious note, Denzel Washington has his mind set on a big role in a Warner Bros' adaptation of Adam Sternbergh's debut novel Shovel Ready, a story based on a hired killer in a futuristic world set in a bombed-out New York. He likes to keep it light. In this sci-fi drama Washington plays a killer contracted to kill a religious zealot's daughter but in a change of events ends up being her protector.
Keeping on the hard-nosed drama track, Tom Hardy has been cast as the lead role in Takashi Miike's The Outsider. It is to be the first English language film by the director whose previous work includes The Audition and Ichi The Killer. Scheduled for shooting next year, it tells the story of an American GI who becomes a member of the yazuka in post World War II Japan. Already, all three films are on our must-see list, for very different reasons. It's also proving immeasurably difficult not to imagine if these three films merged together to form one brain-melting mix of a sci-fi comedy-drama starring Denzel Washington with a hot tub time machine in post World War II Japan. That would be a corker.
