Back when was this initially released, we had a hard time imagining anything could top the first one.

Still, Roland Emmerich isn't one to let things down and is utterly determined to make Independence Day 2 even bigger than the 1996 classic.

Casting for the follow-up to the blockbuster has begun in earnest, with Jeff Goldblum returning to the franchise. Liam Hemsworth, brother of Chris Hemsworth, will be joining the cast along with TV's Jessie Usher.

We checked, but we're not sure if he's related to THAT Usher.

Unfortunately, it looks as though Will Smith will not be returning for the sequel. What IS interesting, however, is that Liam Hemsworth will be playing Bill Pullman's son-in-law.

Could this mean a return for the Pullmanator? Is that even a word? Who knows.

Independence Day 2 will land in cinemas on June 24, 2016.
