'Star Wars: Episode IX' looks like it might be featuring a beefier role for Carrie Fisher's General Leia Organa.
Although it was previously announced that Carrie Fisher would indeed be reprising her role as Princess Leia posthumously, it seems it will be more than just a cameo appearance.
Todd Fisher spoke to 'Good Morning America' over the Christmas period. His appearance marked his late sister's two year anniversary, and he fielded questions about her role in the upcoming space adventure.
Fisher said, "There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just out-takes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday."
Fisher said that he and his family were pleased with how director J.J. Abrams was planning on representing General Leia Organa. He went on to say, "We’re not allowed to talk about the details of anything [...] But we’re thrilled at what’s been done."
Now that 2019 has rolled around, anticipation for the return of the core 'Star Wars' franchise will undoubtedly be gathering momentum. As we edge closer to its release later this year, news about the movie has remained ever-secretive. However, Matt Smith's role has recently been spoiled (although not confirmed) and Episode IX has been billed as a "course correction" for the franchise.
We look forward to seeing more of Carrie Fisher in 'Star Wars' when Episode IX hits Irish cinemas this December 20th.
