Halloween creator (the film, not the holiday) John Carpenter is to direct his first big budget film in years; with news that the legendary genre helmer will direct the film Scared Straight. Nicolas Cage will be the lead in the flick about a group of juvenile delinquents who are trapped inside a prison as part of the "Scared Straight" program when a large-scale riot breaks out, and it is up to inmate Karl Rix (Cage) to save the kids. The Mummy 3 and The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen had been enlisted to direct with Cage attached previously, but pulled out to pursue other projects. Sounds like it could be camped up sufficiently, which Carpenter has done before; but we do hope it’s a return to form for the brilliant hemler.
