Brett Ratner is in talks to direct Robert De Niro in a sequel to one of the best movies of the 80s, Midnight Run.
The original is foul mouthed and absolutely brilliant, centring on a washed up bounty hunter (play by De Niro) who is tasked with bringing in Charles Grodin's irreverent accountant, who screwed over a dangerous mob boss and gave it all away to charity. It really is brilliant, and I recommend it highly. This sequel will see De Niro return but apparently not Grodin - instead the bounty hunter character will be paired up with a younger character.
I don’t mind Ratner - he's just made his best film with Tower Heist. But he does seem like the type of guy who'd do a movie like this just to boast about working with De Niro at clubs.
