You might have read our piece a few weeks ago on Brendan Fraser, in which we discussed Fraser's recent career downturn and problems with alimony.
Fraser, who hasn't starred in a theatrically-released film since 2014, will be joining the cast of Indian mafia thriller The Field. According to reports, Fraser is taking over the role of Charles 'Charu' Joplin, which was originally supposed to be played by Ray Liotta. The film, which is the debut of Rohit Kahn Batra, sees Fraser play an American arms dealer “whose illicit dealings with the Indian underworld wedges him in the middle of the family implosion."
Right so. In a press release, Batra said that "(the) more the script evolved, the more obvious it became Brendan was the best choice for the idiosyncratic role of Charu. For a director to explore this journey with him in a place like India is nothing less than a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
The film, which will feature both Hindi and English dialogue, also stars Bollywood veterans Prem Chopra and Ronit Roy. Although it hasn't been confirmed, it's unlikely that the film will receive a wide release in Ireland or the UK.
Still, good to see Brendan Fraser getting work again.
