Oscar-winning composer James Horner passed away yesterday at the age of 61.
Horner provided the scores for a number of movies during his time in Hollywood, including Titanic and Braveheart, and worked closely with James Cameron over the years, notably on Aliens and Avatar.
His compositions for Titanic won him two Oscars, however he also worked on Field of Dreams, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind and several Star Trek films, to name but a few.
Horner was piloting a small aircraft which crashed yesterday about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, and his passing was confirmed by his assistant Sylvia Patrycja. She posted on Facebook the news confirming his death, saying "we have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent. He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road".
Currently, there are three movies yet to be released that will feature soundtracks by Horner: Jake Gylenhaal's Southpaw, The 33, which looks at the Chilean mining disaster of 2010, and Wolf Totem.
