He said it wouldn't happen but the official Bond Twitter feed has just revealed that Sam Mendes will definitely live to die another day, and direct another Bond movie while he's at it.
As per the tweet which just hit the interweb, the Skyfall director and scribe John Logan will both return for the next installment, which will hit cinema screens this side of the Atlantic in October 2015. Daniel Craig will reprise his leading role, but no further plot details have been revealed just yet.

"Following the extraordinary success of Skyfall, we're really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan," producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement. "I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24," Mendes added. "I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time."
