Nobody was more surprised by how brilliant Lego Movie was than us.

A film about a kid's toy manages to be simultaneously hilarious, heartwarming and feature Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian? Impossible.

Yet, it all came off and Lego Movie became the surprise hit of 2015 for all of us. Naturally, a sequel's already underway, however directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have admitted they're passing on the director's chair as they're tied up with a small indie project called the Han Solo standalone movie.

In the meantime, Rob Schrab - who directed numerous episodes of Community, The Mindy Project and Workaholics - is taking over the reins. A report by Variety late last night confirmed that Raphael Bob-Waksberg is now giving the Lego Movie Sequel a complete rewrite.

Who's he, you're asking? Only the guy who created Bojack Horseman, arguably the best thing Will Arnett's done since Arrested Development. The Netflix-only TV series has become a huge hit and is already into its third season with no signs of it stopping.

Arnett, as we know, played Batman in the first Lego Movie and will be reprising that role in the Lego Batman Movie - which has been described by its director as a "90-minute Easter Egg" of jokes, nods and references to the Caped Crusader.

Bojack Horseman's creator taking a run at the Lego Movie Sequel is no bad thing. For one, the film isn't due out until 2019 so there's absolutely no harm in taking a run over it. Plus, half of what made the first Lego Movie so popular and brilliant was that it had a lot of knowing humour to it - something Bojack Horseman had in spades.

Granted, it might not be so heavy with the pop culture references in the same way that the Lego Movie was, but there's a lot to like about this news.

What do you think? Have you watched Bojack Horseman? Have you even see Lego Movie? Let us know in the comments!
