'Bohemian Rhapsody' has proven to be a hit with audiences all over the world. The film made over $141 million globally, which is nearly three times its production budget of $52 million.
Domestically, it pulled in $50 million. The figure far exceeded Fox's projections of $35-40 million. In just the first two days of release, it had already raked in $72.5 million overseas.
'Bohemian Rhapsody' now holds the record for second-biggest domestic opening ever for a music biopic. 'Straight Outta Compton' is the highest, having opened to $60.2 million back in 2015.
Disney’s 'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms', meanwhile, totally under-performed in its debut. It brought in just $20 million domestically to become the second biggest release in the domestic box office this weekend. Overseas, 'The Nutcracker' brought in $38.5 million for a worldwide total of $58.5 million.
Landing in third place is the Tiffany Haddish-Whoopi Goldberg comedy 'Nobody’s Fool'. It delivered a domestic opening of $13.7 million.
'A Star is Born' came in at fourth place, having been in cinemas for five weeks. 'Halloween' is also still going strong for its third weekend. It was the fifth highest grossing film at the box office this weekend with a domestic total of $150.4 million to date.
While we quite liked 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (you can read our review here), the film has been receiving mixed to negative reviews in general.
Starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, the flick tracks Queen being founded in 1970 to its famous 1985 Live Aid concert.
