Crowd pleasing (er, in a way) documentary Blackfish has been shortlisted for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar.
The killer whale film - which we keep on thinking is internet exposé Catfish when we hear the title, as we bet do a whole load of other people - is listed along scandal driven The Armstrong Lie and Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer.
The Act of Killing - which documents Indonesian death squad 'heroes' as they reenact their mass-killings - is one of the other more recognisable titles on the list.
Filling out the rest of the 15 docs are The Crash Reel, Cutie and the Boxer, Dirty Wars, First Cousin Once Removed, God Loves Uganda,
Life According to Sam, The Square, Stories We Tell, Tim’s Vermeer, 20 Feet from Stardom and Which Way Is the Front Line from Here? The Life and Time of Tim Hetherington.
The Academy will narrow down the list by January 16th and the winner will be announced at the 2014 Academy Awards on March 2nd.
