It has been revealed that BJ Novak will play Alistair Smythe in The Amazing Spiderman 2.
The news was disclosed by director Marc Webb on Twitter yesterday, while referencing a short film that Novak made to promote the launch of his book of short stories. Well worth a watch in itself, actually, it's pretty funny.
Alistair is one of a few villains that will take on Spiderman in the new picture, Jamie Foxx who plays Electro being the primary one, in a movie that is now eagerly anticipated. The son of Spencer Smythe, inventor of the Spider Slayer robots, Alistair is the chief benefactor of his father's hatred towards Spiderman, taking after him in the pursuit of Spiderman's downfall, fighting under the self given moniker The Ultimate Spider Slayer. A far cry from his role in the office, I would say.
It is not fully known as to the extent Alistair will feature in the movie, but it looks likely that this is paving the way for him to feature heavily in future projects.
