After much speculation, Bill Murray has finally said what he thinks about there being a new Ghostbusters movie, and whether or not he'll appear in it.
Last week it was confirmed that there will be a new Ghostbusters coming our way, but that it was going to be an all-female cast featuring the funniest women in Hollywood. That meant that Bill Murray wouldn't be starring, but people still wanted to know if there was any chance that he would show up in the movie or would be invovled at all, given how fondly people remember the franchise...well at least the first one.
Speaking to Variety, Murray finally put some of that speculation to bed when talking about the reboot/third movie, and he didn't seem all that intrigued by the idea of going back. While a cameo hasn't been completely ruled out, he sounds like a man who's happy to leave the past in the past.
"The studio gets really crazy about it. What they really want to do is resurrect a franchise. The first one was a spectacular movie, one of the greatest movies. The second one was [Murray makes an unimpressed sound]... It had some moves. It had a few good scenes in it.”
The argument for many, as Murray pointed out, was that this movie will make a ton of money at the box office, but again, that wasn't something he cared too much about: “People say, ‘Bill, you could get so rich!'. I’m ok. [He looks down at his red pants and plastic watch] I don’t look it, but I’m doing ok.”
In the full Variety interview he talks about the previous scripts that he's mulled over for the third movie, but none of them really grabbed him enough to go back, so overall it sounds like he won't be rushing back to appear in Feig's reimagining.
