Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return as the caped superhero in 'Doctor Strange 2'.
Hot on the heels of the most watched trailer of all time, it looks like we'll be seeing plenty more of Stephen Strange and his time-bending abilities in the years to come.
News coming in from The Hollywood Reporter is that director Scott Derrickson, who directed 2016's 'Doctor Strange' will be returning to helm the magician's second outing on the big screen.
While Derrickson is on board, the search for a lead writer of the movie's script is currently underway. This means that although 'Avengers: Endgame' will be released next April, plans for Strange's next outing is quite a while off. The earliest we'll see 'Doctor Strange 2' is the summer of 2021; if a spring 2020 production start is to be believed.
Not to worry though, as returning cast members Benedict Wong and Rachel McAdams are likely to be back as Wong and Christine, respectively. Also, given what happened in the final act of the first movie, Mordo actor Chiwetel Ejiofor must also be on the cards to return; he'll be back to potentially cause a disruption.
And considering that Strange now knows most of the superheroes in Marvel's arsenal, it's a given there will be a cross-over or two with some of Marvel's elite.
'Doctor Strange 2' will be part of Marvel Studios Phase 4 when it gets released. Before then however, we have 'Captain Marvel' next March, 'Avengers: Endgame' in April, and 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' in July, all to look forward to.
