Remember Saw? The horror movie with a brilliant premise and an incredibly smart screenplay?
Remember all the shit that came afterwards? Exactly. Saw ran for - count them - SEVEN films with the final chapter simply called Saw 3D. Tells you all you need to know, really. Released back in 2010, everyone was pretty certain that was all she wrote for the Saw franchise, despite the original one being re-released for its tenth anniversary.
Not so, it would seem, as plans have been announced for Saw 8 with the screenwriters of Sorority Row and Piranha 3D lined up to take over here. There had been talk that the original Saw, directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell, would be getting involved with a potential remake. Thankfully, nothing came of it.
So, what'll happen with Saw 8? And wasn't that Saw 3D thing supposed to be the last one? Nobody's really sure on both counts, but it is known that Lionsgate are pushing ahead with this, despite nobody really wanting it outside of hardcore Saw fans. No release date has been scheduled and no director or stars are attached, but that may all change in the coming months.
For now, let's all remind ourselves of how good the first Saw was.
