The Monster Squad is one of the damn finest PG movies of the 80s, and in my humble opinion, better than other much loved decade stalwart, The Goonies *ducks. Now, as you may have guessed by the headline, they're remaking this.
The original was co-scripted by the brilliant Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and helmed by Fred Dekker, while the remake will see the original producer, Rob Cohen, step behind the megaphone. Michael Bay's incessantly abrasive horror production shingle, Platnum Dunes, is producing the film, about a bunch of kids who take on Dracula and his many goons.
Cohen last helmed (the muck) third Mummy sequel, and has only really made one decent film in the past ten years - Point Break rip-off, The Fast and the Furious. The set up is so inherently simple and well played, it really doesn't need remaking. But when has that ever stopped them before...
