They are two young Irish actors enjoying a significant boost in profile following awards season and their first Oscar nominations.
Now, Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan may be starring in a blockbuster together - if rumours are to be believed.
Dubliner Keoghan has reportedly been cast in Ridley Scott's forthcoming 'Gladiator' sequel, as the villain opposite the film's hero, played by Mescal.
Keoghan is said to be playing Roman Emperor Geta, while Mescal will play an older version of Lucius from Scott's 2000 epic.
It must be said that although this is still unconfirmed, Keoghan has already put in excellent groundwork as a villain in 'The Killing of a Sacred Deer'. His next confirmed project is the title role in an upcoming 'Billy the Kid' film.
Details on 'Gladiator 2' have been difficult to come by, although it is apparently set for release in November 2024.
