Although a film can go quiet for some time, the real nail in the coffin is when it's pulled from the upcoming release schedule - and that's exactly what's happened with Bad Boys 3.

Much of Sony's release slate has been rejigged and moved around, with the likes of the live-action Barbie movie being pushed back to August 2018, and the Sicario sequel Soldado pushed up to June 2018.

Bad Boys for Life, however, was supposed to be slated for a June release of this year, but then this was moved to November 2018. Now, it's been fully removed which speaks to much of behind-the-scenes turmoil around the film. As we reported in March of this year, Joe Carnahan exiting the film as director had a lot to do with it - as both Martin Lawrence and Will Smith were more than eager to do another one.

For his part, original director Michael Bay was pretty adamant that it needs to happen so. In May of this year, Bay told CinemaBlend that it needs to happen soon or it'll be a Lethal Weapon 4 situation. "Pretty soon they’re going to be old boys, okay? Pretty soon they’re going to be retired cops instead of active-duty cops."

"It’s taken a long time to get that thing going, and I’m not involved in getting it going. They should get it going soon, though. You could definitely get Martin and Will to be funny again — those were fun movies to do.”

While it's true that they were fun, don't expect to see Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett back in action any time soon.
