Ardmore Studios has seen some classic film productions down through the years.
John Boorman's Excalibur, Mel Gibson's Braveheart, Jim Sheridan's My Left Foot and countless others spent time in Bray to film at Ardmore Studios. It's been announced today that the studio will be put up for sale as a going concern by its Board, the majority shareholders being U2 manager Paul McGuinness and accountant Ossie Kilkenny.
The 18-acre site is currently hosting The Professor and the Madman, a period drama starring Mel Gibson and Sean Penn, as well as Showtime's Penny Dreadful and a number of other productions in the pipeline. A statement from Ardmore says that "has recorded significant profitability over the last number of years whilst operating to almost full capacity."
The statement goes on, saying that its Directors have invested €2,000,000 "to significantly enhance and upgrade its on-site facilities."
No guide price has been set for the site as of yet.
Ardmore Studios' offering comes as Troy Studios in Limerick opens its doors on the site of Limerick's Dell factory. Ossie Kilkenny is said to be involved as a director in Troy Studios, along with a number of other investors. The Dell factory in Limerick is currently being converted to a international film hub and is expected to rival Ardmore Studios.
