His dad is currently enjoying arguably the most successful period of his entire career, but 16-year-old Aran Murphy is set to follow in the Cork native's footsteps.
The young actor has been cast in a new film, an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's 'Klara and the Sun', which is being directed by Taika Waititi and will also star 'Wednesday' actress Jenna Ortega and 'Arrival' star Amy Adams.
Aran is the younger son of Murphy and his artist wife Yvonne McGuinness, who also have an 18-year-old son called Malachy.
According to IMDB, his only previous accredited film role was in the Irish-British sci-fi film 'Lola' in 2022, although at the age of 11, he played the title role of 'Hamnet', the stage adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's acclaimed novel (which is now set to be adapted for the big screen with Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley.)
Deadline reports that Aran Murphy will play the character of Rick in 'Klara and the Sun', which is the story of an 'Artificial Friend' robot who is bought for Josie, a teenage girl stricken by a mysterious illness. Murphy will play the next-door neighbour and best friend of Josie.
The film is currently in pre-production.
