Set for release on October 19, 2018, Andy Serkis’ forthcoming Jungle Book: Origins has a new name now, which suits the film much better, in our opinion.
According to Deadline, the film will now simply be called Mowgli.
It’s been a while since we heard updates on the project, which is in a way Warner Bros’ answer to Disney’s hit live-action/CG adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling classic from 2015, though Serkis’ take has been said to be a “darker” take on the material.
A plot synopsis has also been released via Collider, but there’s nothing too exciting here as it essentially describes Kipling's now very familiar story: “The story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli, raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger Shere Khan. But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins.”
Still, with a cast that includes Christian Bale as Bagheera; Cate Blanchett as Kaa, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Andy Serkis as Baloo as well as Naomi Harris, Peter Mullan, Jack Reynor Eddie Marsan and Tom Hollander, there’s much to look forward to.
