When you consider how obsessed Andy Serkis is with animals, it's hard to understand why he starred in 13 Going on 30. Anyhoo, the actor who we think is just amazeballs, apearing in King Kong, Planet of the Apes (and I suppose you could consider LOTR's Gollum of the animal variety at a stretch?) is on to his next animal related project. Serkis will helm a version of George Orwell's Animal Farm. This will be the first major flick for Serkis and the first for his performance-capture studio, The Imaginarium.
For those of you unfamiliar, Animal Farm is an allegorical novella - told with animals - that mirrors the rise of the Stalin era, before World War 2. Just think of Stalin as a pig named Napolean who's gone a bit power mad.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Serkis said: "I think we found a rather fresh way of looking at it. It is definitely using performance capture, but we are using an amalgamation of filming styles to create the environments... We're keeping it fable-istic and [aimed at] a family audience. We are not going to handle the politics in a heavy-handed fashion. It is going to be emotionally centred in a way that I don't think has been seen before. The point of view that we take will be slightly different to how it is normally portrayed. We are examining this in a new light."
