The 'Alien' franchise has yet another offering for us this summer. While there's no Sigourney Weaver, our familiar face-hugging little friends are back along with their not-so-little mamma.
If the latest trailer for 'Alien: Romulus' is anything to go by, it promises to be an absolute gore-fest. Although that's to be expected considering it does have Fede Alvarez, the director of 'Evil Dead' and 'Don't Breathe' at its helm.
'Alien: Romulus' is the seventh installment in the Alien franchise (the ninth including the 'Predator' crossovers) and serves as a standalone interquel set between the events of 'Alien' (1979) and 'Aliens' (1986). It sees a group of young space colonists who, while scavenging a derelict space station, come face to face with some pretty damn unpleasant creatures.
Cailee Spaeny ('Priscilla', 'Pacific Rim: Uprising') stars as Rain Carradine, Isabela Merced ('The Last of Us') plays Kay, and David Jonsson ('Murder Is Easy') plays Andy. Archie Renaux ('Shadow and Bone') plays Tyler, Spike Fearn ('Aftersun') plays Bjorn, and Aileen Wu plays Navarro.
Those of you hoping that the iconic Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) might make a cameo, it wouldn't make any sense unfortunately. At this point in the timeline, she's in the middle of her 57-year stasis with Jonesy as her escape shuttle travels through space toward her fateful encounter with a xenomorph queen.
But sure look, making sense or being accurate to the original storyline isn't always the priority of a franchise so who knows?!
