It is unquestionably her most famous film role to date, but the part of Ally in the 2018 remake of 'A Star is Born' almost passed Lady Gaga by.
Gaga's breakthrough role almost went to another famous singer, according to director Bradley Cooper, who has said that he considered Adele for the part at one point.
Cooper made the comments at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival last week, where he was in attendance to accept an award for 'Maestro'.
IndieWire report the actor and director as saying "I thought about Adele for a while. It was like, his [character in the film] career’s not great. He goes abroad. He meets this woman, but no; and then that never even took off at all."
Adele has never spoken about being considered for the part, so it's not yet known if the Londoner was aware that she was in the mix. However, it has previously been reported that Beyonce was originally tapped to play the role of Ally before dropping out, and the part ultimately went to Lady Gaga - earning her an Oscar nomination for 'Best Actress' in 2019.
"She was incredible," Cooper said of Beyonce. "And we went down the road and then it didn’t work out. I remember I was so nervous. I had this weird cough as I was pitching it to her."
Adele has just one acting credit to her name; a cameo in a 2009 episode of 'Ugly Betty', but has spoken about her desire to act in a particular movie which has not yet been written. "There is one movie I want to do, but the guy whose movie it would be, he’s not mentally ready to write the script for it,” she said. "I bug him every now and then about it, but he’s just not there yet. But that’s the only role I ever want. Because I think I’d nail it. I think I’d do really, really, really good at it."
