Now that the Disney-Fox merger is underway and Disney have confirmed that Kevin Feige is due to take over the production of the X-Men characters once the merger's complete, 'Dark Phoenix' will go down as the last X-Men movie in the current iteration.
In fact, a teaser which leaked on Reddit appears to be playing up this fact as it opens with The Doors' 1967 hit, 'The End'. The teaser, which was clearly bootlegged and is mostly unwatchable (and in Russian, too), gives us our first glimpse of what Simon Kinberg has in store and the return of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy as Erik Lensherr and Charles Xavier. Not only that, you've got 'Game Of Thrones' alum Sophie Turner in there as the titular character, Jessica Chastain as the unnamed villain, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and Nicholas Hoult as Beast.
The scuttlebutt online has it that the official teaser will go live at some stage in the coming days as it's understood it'll be attached to the cinema print of 'Venom', which arrives in cinemas on October 5th. Other than that, there's not really much to tell. Given how poorly received 'X-Men: Apocalypse' was and how it squandered one of the best villains in comic-book history, not to mention making Mystique into a hero purely to suit Jennifer Lawrence's rising star-power, nobody's going to be too broken up about X-Men coming under the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
'Dark Phoenix' arrives in cinemas in Ireland on February 5th, 2019.
