We're into July already (how time flies!) and if one thing's for sure it's that summer 2019 is packed with blockbuster movie releases.

In fact, cliched as it sounds, there really is something for everyone in cinemas.

We're looking at the biggest movie releases now showing and on the way. We're considering films like superhero movies, action, sci fi, horror and animation. There are loads of other movies too - check them out on our Irish movie release calendar here. But we figure the ones you'll most want to watch are the ones that are made for the big screen.

Here are the 9 big movie releases heading your way this summer.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (now showing)

It makes hardly any sense and gets pretty cheesy but isn't that exactly what you want from a 'Godzilla' movie? Starring Millie Bobby Brown and Ken Watanabe, the CGI and big action sequences of this monster movie demand to be seen on the big screen.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix (now showing)

It's been officially confirmed that 'Dark Phoenix' is the last installment of this generation of 'X-Men'. So surely you have to see how it all ends, right? In the film, a mission gone wrong sees Jean Grey develop powers that corrupt and turn her evil. Now the superhero team have to decide whether to save Jean or save the world from her.

Men in Black: International (now showing)

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones may be out but they're replaced by the wonderfully comic Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, who previously lit up the screen in 'Thor: Ragnarok.' As Agent H and Agent M, they fight to protect Earth from alien scum and pursue a mole in the secret organisation.

Toy Story 4 (now showing)

Everyone's favourite toys are back and this time they're joined by a new face in Forky. When he goes missing, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the gang head out on a road trip adventure to bring Forky back. Both Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have teased it as a tearjerker so bring tissues to the cinema!

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2 July)

Kicking off things immediately after 'Avengers: Endgame', 'Far From Home' sees Peter Parker taking a well-earned break in the form of a European vacation with his friends. However it's cut short when Nick Fury enlists him for a mission. We're psyched to see Jake Gyllenhaal enter the MCU as Mysterio (who may or may not be the bad guy). We just know he's going to be brilliant.

Annabelle Comes Home (10 July)

The one horror movie fans have been waiting for. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren in this latest Conjuring Universe film. This time, their daughter and her babysitters wander where they're not meant to and accidentally set the titular possessed doll free.

The Lion King (19 July)

Disney's third live-action remake this year - following 'Dumbo' and 'Aladdin' - is 'The Lion King'. It's safe to say that this is the one people have been most excited for. With a cast that includes Beyonce, Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen and Alfre Woodard, who can blame them?

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2 August)

Here, the 'Fast & Furious' movies haven't earned the best rep over its eight movies. But you have to admit when it comes to big screen, adrenaline-pumped entertainment, it doesn't get much better. Moreover, it follows two of the most beloved characters from the franchise - Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). They're forced to team up, in spite of hating each other, which can only lead to big laughs and big action.

Once upon a Time in Hollywood (14 August)

Quentin Tarantino's ninth film has a major cast to boot and has promised to be 'Pulp Fiction'-like in structure. Set in 1969, it follows fading TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as their lives collide with that of Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie).
