The 90's horror movie 'The Craft' is getting a modern-day reboot.
A reboot of the 1996 cult classic 'The Craft' that follows the lives of four teenage witches is in the works. The reboot has been rumoured for years, and now seems like it is finally moving ahead with a potential director already on board.
Zoe Lister-Jones, better known for her acting roles in TV series' 'New Girl' and 'Whitney', is set to write and direct the new reboot. Lister-Jones previously wrote, directed, and played the lead role in the indie drama/musical, 'Band Aid'. While directing one movie maybe might not make her an obvious choice for the job, 'Band Aid' does have an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score that shouldn't be scoffed at.
Sony Pictures and Blumhouse Productions will be working together on the fresh take of the cult classic. While Blumhouse producing the movie may sound like a dream - some of their films of late have been rather hit and miss. As well as being involved with some true top-tier horrors such as 'Get Out', 'Insidious', and 'Sinister', they've also had their hand at some other questionable ones like 'Glass' and 'The Purge' franchise.
In terms of what we hope to see with this new 'The Craft' reboot, we just hope it's not a rehash of the original, and has a more fresh approach - which might be difficult. Since the movie was released in 1996, there has been a heap of franchises that have been influenced by the original, such as 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' and 'Charmed' (which have both had reboots since).
Once Lister-Jones has the script ready, be sure to watch out for casting announcements in the coming months.
