It may not have made the cut for our 10 Sci-Fi Films You Have To See Before You Die, but we still really liked 12 Monkeys, the 90's cult sci-fi film with Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis. Well, it turns out SyFy are big fans of it too, and they've decided to greenlight a pilot episode and see if they want to turn it into a full series.

It's early days yet and there's no word on casting, but we do know that Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett are writing. They've previously worked on TV series Nikita and the cancelled Terra Nova, which itself was produced by Steven Spielberg.

We're not holding our breath on this one, frankly. 12 Monkeys was a great film, but the story is way too complex and strange to be made into a TV series. Not only that, there's no word of the original director of the film - Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam - signing off or given his blessing. That's never a good sign, frankly.

Still, it could surprise us all just like the original did.
