No, you didn't imagine it - Michael Caine really was in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk.
The 84-year-old actor had a brief cameo in the World War II epic as the RAF commander who speaks to Tom Hardy at the start of the film via radio communications. As Nolan himself confirmed in a recent interview with NJ, the director "wanted very much to squeeze him in here. It's a bit of a nod to his character in Battle of Britain. And also, it's Michael. He has to be in all my films, after all."
Caine played Squadron Leader Canfield in Guy Hamilton's 1969 epic, starring alongside Sir Laurence Olivier, Robert Shaw, and a young Ian McShane and Christopher Plummer.
"It's shocking to me that a lot of people haven't (noticed him), when he has really one of the most distinctive voices in cinema," said Nolan. We noticed, man. We just weren't sure. Dunkirk marks his seventh collaboration with Nolan, having previously appeared in all three Batman films, Inception, Interstellar and The Prestige.
