'Wolfwalkers' came out as the number one film in the Irish box office this weekend. It was also third overall across the box office in Ireland and the UK.
The family animated feature is the latest from Kilkenny-based studio Cartoon Saloon ('The Secret of Kells', 'Song of the Sea').
'Wolfwalkers' has been getting stellar reviews across the globe following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last September.
The movie follows Robyn Goodfellowe, the daughter of a hunter. After wandering into a nearby forest, she befriends a wild girl living there named Mebh. The two become friends and band together to protect the last wolf pack, which Robyn's father has been assigned to exterminate.
The voice cast includes Sean Bean, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Tommy Tiernan, Simon McBurney, Honor Kneafsey and Eva Whittaker.
'Wolfwalkers' is the first Irish film since 'Black '47' in 2018 to reach the top spot at the national box office.
