The first trailer for the new James Brown biopic, Get On Up, has been released.
Directed by Tate Taylor, the film follows the life of the king of funk, James Brown, played by Chadwick Boseman, as he ascends from a life beginning in poverty and transcending into crime and jail time to one of the greatest and most influential music acts of all time. The film also tracks Brown's mother played by Viola Davis, who abandoned him at a young age, as well as Brown's aunt (Octavia Spencer) who was left to raise Brown in a brothel.
Produced by Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins of Imagine Entertainment, alongside Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman under their Jagged Films name, the movie will be released by Universal Pictures on August 1.
