The Jungle Book was always going to be a hit given the incredible reviews Jon Favreau's CGI/Live Action blend has received, but even then it's still outpaced expectations at the American box-office.

The Disney flick took just under $104 million in its first 3 days, killing the $60-$70 million estimated bow it was tracking at before the phenomenal opening.

The PG rated flick is pulling an extremely broad audience, not just the family crowd which analysts are saying is the reason for the over performance. Expect it to show long legs also - this could be one of the biggest films of the summer when all is said and done.

It also topped the Irish box-office, nearing $1 million since Friday.

Elsewhere Ice Cube sequel Barbershop: The Next Cut pulled in $20 million. The former rapper still has that opening power.

This week sees the launch of sequel, The Huntsman in the US, which is being savaged by critics. It shouldn't trouble The Jungle Book too much for the top spot.
