News about the 'Thor: Ragnarok' and 'Jojo Rabbit' helmer's upcoming fantasy epic has made its way around again, over a year after it was first rumoured.
Taika Waititi and his 'Star Wars' movie has locked in a storyline, according to the acclaimed film director and actor.
The star, who will appear in this weekend's newest cinema release 'Free Guy' alongside Ryan Reynolds, dished out the latest news on his upcoming Disney project to Wired. Thankfully, it appears that his tongue-in-cheek creative style will be plastered all over it.
Speaking about the status of his movie, Taika said: "It’s still in the 'EXT. SPACE' stage. But we’ve got a story. I’m really excited by it because it feels very me."
Asked if he was able to marry his "irreverent tone" of filmmaking with that of a 'Star Wars' movie, he answered: "I tend to go down that little sincerity alleyway in my films. I like to fool the viewer into thinking 'ha it’s this' and then them going, 'Damn it, you made me feel something!'"
As exciting as it is to hear about the Taika Waititi 'Star Wars' movie, it's important to note that this project is likely years away from being released. Currently one of the busiest men in Hollywood, the director/actor/producer/writer has a number of other projects in the pipeline which will take precedence over the Lucasfilm creation.
Fresh from wrapping production on Marvel's 'Thor: Love and Thunder' earlier this summer, he is also busy working on two series for Netflix based on the works of Roald Dahl. Add to that his new sitcom with Jermaine Clement, his 'Flash Gordon' remake, and 'What We Do In The Shadows' spin-off 'We're Wolves' - after all of this, he might have some time to shoot this little 'Star Wars' movie.
