James Gunn has revealed some behind the scenes trivia for 'The Suicide Squad' which you might not have expected.
It turns out that the director approached Taika Waititi for a different role in the DC movie than the one he ended up with.
Gunn explained to Indiewire: "I actually thought about Taika for another role and I offered it to him and he said, 'I don’t know…'"
The much in demand actor-writer-director was working on ‘Akira’ at the time.
According to Gunn, Taika Waititi said 'I had to give you my answer in like two weeks,' and that "he totally wanted to do it."
Gunn added: "It was one of the other superheroes. And he said that he wanted to do it and then 'Akira' got greenlit and it was happening."
The 'Suicide Squad' director would not reveal what was the original, bigger role he wanted the New Zealand actor to play.
"I would feel bad," he said.
Then 'Akira' got pushed back and Taika Waititi signed onto direct 'Thor: Love and Thunder'.
But he also wanted to do 'The Suicide Squad'.
"Then, all of a sudden, it fell apart and [Taika] wrote me and he said, 'Oh, [the] f***ing movie fell apart. Is that role is still available?,'" Gunn said.
"And I said, 'No, but let me get you in something else.'"
'The Suicide Squad' is showing in Irish cinemas now.
