Taking to Twitter this week, director of 'Knives Out' Rian Johnson revealed the title of the 2019 murder-mystery will be 'Glass Onion'.

The film's title takes its inspiration from a Beatles song of the same name. This follows the same thread as the original film, which borrowed its title from a Beatles tune.

In a series of tweets, Johnson wrote:

"Something I love about Agatha Christie is how she never tread water creatively. I think there's a misperception that her books use the same formula over and over, but fans know the opposite is true.

"It wasn't just settings or murder methods, she was constantly stretching the genre conceptually. Under the umbrella of the whodunnit she wrote spy thrillers, proto-slasher horrors, serial killer hunts, gothic romances, psychological character studies, glam travelogues.

"When I made Knives Out, that’s what excited me about the prospect of making more mysteries with Daniel as Benoit Blanc - to emulate Christie and have every film be like a whole new book, with its own tone, ambition, reason for being… and (ta dah) title."

Johnson also shared a brief teaser which featured the name reveal. The video featured the cast and the release time, which is set for "this holiday season."

After the release of 'Knives Out', Johnson almost immediately started work on a sequel. Netflix jumped in shortly after to pay over €400 million for not one, but two follow-up movies.

The cast for 'Glass Onion' is just as impressive as the first film's ensemble. Daniel Craig of course returns as detective Benoit Blanc. It also stars Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monae, Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista, Madeline Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke.

Not much is known about the plot at the moment. However, there is a hint in Netflix's video for its 2022 slate of releases. It features a short shot of the cast of the sequel boarding a boat in a Mediterranean setting.

Knives Out 2

Johnson finished his series of tweets by saying "MUCH MORE TO COME". So, hopefully a synopsis or even a trailer lands soon.

'Glass Onions' comes to Netflix "this holiday season".
