Although cinemas are set to open here in Ireland on July 20th, other countries across the globe aren't so lucky.
While staggered release dates are nothing new, the difference in potential release dates for movies is obviously up to a point where studios simply aren't taking chances. Up until now, only one summer blockbuster was holding fast to its release - Christopher Nolan's 'Tenet'.
However, it's been confirmed that both 'Tenet', 'Wonder Woman 1984', and next year's 'The Matrix 4' have all shifted their release dates. Some have only moved a few days, while others have gone nearly a full year.
'Tenet' will now release on July 31st, moving from the original release date of July 17th. 'Wonder Woman 1984' is now releasing on October 2nd, moving from August 14th.
'The Matrix 4' was due to release in 2021, but has now moved to April 1st, 2022. Meanwhile, 'Godzilla Vs. Kong' has moved from November 20th of this year to May 21st of next year.
Up until now, Warner Bros. had been adamant that 'Tenet' would make its release date and as recently as last week had told cinema owners to be ready for July 17th. Instead, however, the plan now apparently is to offer 'Inception' to US cinemas in the place where 'Tenet' was supposed to be released. It's not known if Irish cinemas will be screening 'Inception' instead.
