Movie memorabilia is a huge business, and when key artefacts and props go up for sale, they can often fetch high prices.
For example, the Staff of Ra from 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' sold at auction earlier this year for a whopping $110,000. In the same auction, Ellen Ripley's flamethrower from 'Aliens' was sold for $62,500, while the golden sword from 'Hook' sold for $18,000.
In short, there's a lot to be made from movie memorabilia, but the question is always who ends up buying these pieces for so much money? Well, for one such piece - the mask from 'Hannibal' - we know where it ended up. In the hands of Michael Flatley.
Yes, 'Lord of the Dance' and director of the as-yet-unreleased action-thriller 'Blackbird'.
It was revealed in a recent radio interview on Newstalk that Flatley is selling off a number of items from his home in Co. Cork, and among the items is the famous Hannibal Lecter mask, signed by Anthony Hopkins and Julieanne Moore.
The auctioneer claimed that this was the actual mask from 'Silence of the Lambs' and said that it was signed by Julieanne Moore, however, Jodie Foster starred in 'Silence of the Lambs' while Moore was in 'Hannibal'. Either way, the mask is expected to fetch a high price at auction when it takes place on November 26th and November 27th.
The catalogue is expected to go live at some stage this week, which will reveal a guide price for the mask. We'll also be keeping an eye out for anything related to 'Blackbird', too.
