After a relatively quiet Christmas, it seems that Hollywood casting announcements are coming in thick and fast this January. The previously announced prequel movie 'The Many Saints of Newark' has revealed some if it's cast.
Set to take place in the 1960's, 'The Many Saints of Newark' will act as a prequel movie to the hit HBO 'Sopranos' series.
News broke last week that apparently a young Tony Soprano will play a key role in the movie, fuelling speculation that there may be more 'Sopranos' Easter Eggs at play in the prequel. Other plot details have been kept under wraps, except that the majority of the movie will take place during the Newark Riots between the Italians dan African-American communities.
Now, Jon Bernthal ('The Punisher' and 'Baby Driver') and Vera Farmiga ('Bates Motel' and 'The Conjuring') have been announced as cast members. They will join the only other previously announced cast member Alessandro Nivola; Nivola will play Dickie Moltisanti, however the roles of Bernthal and Farmiga are still unknown.
'Sopranos' series creator David Chase co-wrote the script for 'The Many Saints of Newark.' He mentioned recently that he was "still very worried about" bringing the world of Tony Soprano to the big screen.
There has been no further news on when filming is due to begin.
Bernthal's 'The Punisher' season two is set to arrive on Netflix this Friday.
