Jim Carrey is in the final stages of negotiation to play Dr. Robotnik in an upcoming live-action movie based on the popular 'Sonic The Hedgehog' gaming franchise.
Wow, just think of all the fully-grown people who'd have lost their absolute s*** if they knew Jim Carrey was eventually going to play Robotnik. Anyway, Deadline are reporting that Carrey will play the villain next to James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.
Carrey is the first actor so far to have been specifically identified with a named character, as neither Marsden nor Sumpter were linked with any one character in the series. It's not even known who's playing Sonic, Tails, Knuckles - or even if Tails or Knuckles are in the movie.
It's genuinely crazy to think that Sonic The Hedgehog is getting its own big-screen adaptation, especially since the games themselves have had less-than-favourable reviews and commercial success in recent years. That said, the games were HUGE in the '90s and pretty much anyone over the age of 25 knows who Sonic is - so the idea of making a movie out of it, however impossible it may seem, sort of makes sense.
Sort of. 'Sonic The Hedgehog' is set for release on November 15th, 2019.
