Now that Hugh Jackman has hanged up his adamantium claws, he's now free to take on much more in-depth and physically challenging work than he's ever done before.

Michael Mann's long-gestating biopic on Enzo Ferrari and his intense rivalry with Maserati originally had Christian Bale lined up in the role, who then pulled out over health concerns relating to the physical transformation he'd have to go under for the role. The film was then kicked to touch, but now it's back on as Deadline confirms Hugh Jackman has signed on for the role.

Jackman bears a close physical resemblance to Enzo, especially in his younger years, so there won't be too much of a stretch to imagine one playing the other. Meanwhile, Noomi Rapace is set to play Laura, Ferrari's estranged wife, with other casting coming down the line.

No release date has been set, nor has any filming date been announced either, but it's likely that Ferrari will be aiming to be a contender for Oscars somewhere along the way based on the director and actors attached.
