With 'Love Actually' receiving a sequel-ette in last year's 'Comic Relief', it looks like 'Four Weddings And A Funeral' is the next British rom-com to get the treatment.
Hugh Grant confirmed the news to Vulture in a press conference, saying that the proposed sequel-ette will also be for Comic Relief. As well as this, the actor was also quizzed as to why he hadn't turned up in other sequels for his movies - namely 'Bridget Jones's Baby'. As Grant told it, it was simply a case that he "could never make him work in that story... I just didn’t know how Daniel Cleaver would react to (Bridget’s pregnancy). I thought he would’ve run away from the situation."
Grant explained that even though romantic comedies may have somewhat died a death of late, he's still proud of his work on them, even if he's done with them. "I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth in the sense of looking down on romantic comedies. I’m proud of them," he explained. "If I get home and switch on the TV... there I am. Chatting up some girl. I’m sort of grateful to them, but I’m also very pleased to be through with them, I have to say."
On the topic of 'Four Weddings And A Funeral', however, Grant seems happy enough to return to it - even if it just "a sequel-ette" as he calls it. Whether or not Rowan Atkinson, Kristin Scott Thomas or Andie MacDowell are coming back remains to be seen, but given how it's probably going to be a short little scene, you'd imagine it can't be too much of an effort to do.
