There were very few positives to take away from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Ewan McGregor and Samuel L. Jackson as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mace Windu were two of those positives. Christopher Lee as Count Dooku was another. That's about the height of it, really. Well, maybe the pod-racing scene in The Phantom Menace.
Anyway, Samuel L. Jackson recently took part in a Twitter Q&A and, sure enough, the question of Mace Windu and his death in Revenge of the Sith came up. As Jackson described it, Lucas chose to kill off his character because his death would be the only one that mattered in the film.
Jackson, however, couldn't rectify the death in his mind and, as he tells it, Windu survived both getting his arm cut off and being thrown out of a skyscraper - because Jedi are able to survive that sorta thing, don't you know. What's more, George Lucas agreed with him. Jackson explained that Lucas "was okay (sic) with that", however he did point out that Lucas has virtually no control over Star Wars or how the story now works.

So, what does it all mean? Not a whole lot, to be quite honest.
Despite the fact that Mace Windu and Samuel L. Jackson still have some goodwill with the Star Wars faithful, there's absolutely no way that JJ Abrams or anyone in the current regime is going to even attempt to bring back something from the prequels. They're toxic.
In fact, in The Force Awakens, there was even a sly little dig at them and the clone troopers in a scene between Domhnall Gleeson and Adam Driver. If there was to be somewhere where Mace Windu could fit back in, it'd be on the surprisingly-good Star Wars: Rebels TV series, but that's pretty much it.
What do you think? Would you want to see Samuel L. Jackson back in the live-action Star Wars series? Let us know in the comments!
