Taking a classic like 'Little Women', beloved by so many for so long, and adapting it to the big screen is no easy task. Gillian Armstrong managed to create a movie classic in her 1994 adaptation which starred Winona Ryder, Claire Danes and Kirsten Dunst.

And now, 'Ladybird' director Greta Gerwig has attempted it. And well, if the first reactions are anything to go by, she too has brought this epic story to life beautifully.

'Little Women', which is out at Christmas, was given its first screening to journalists stateside this week and the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

Many are predicting Oscar glory for Gerwig and are praising the performances of its stars Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet. Could this be Ronan's fourth Oscar nomination?

'Little Women', which also stars Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Emma Watson and Eliza Scanlen, arrives in Irish cinemas on December 27th, 2019.
