Drive-in cinemas are having a moment in the US for the first time in decades, and it's all down to social distancing.

Like the rest of the world, the US has imposed social distancing measures and that's meant that cinemas are among the businesses impacted by the move. However, a cinema chain in Texas took the ingenious step of aiming one of its projectors at an outside wall and has now become a hit in the locality.

Forbes profiled EVO Entertainment in Schertz, Texas, which has been screening recent blockbuster movies such as 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' to audiences while maintaining social distancing rules.

The audience parks in the cinema's parking lot, and can order food from the cinema's kitchen via the cinema's app, so no cash is required. When their food is ready, it's delivered to the car via an EVO employee wearing gloves like a takeaway.

As if that wasn't enough of a reason, the screenings themselves are free of charge and open to anyone to attend in a car. However, people are encouraged to buy food and drink in order to help keep the business going.

It might not be the same thing as a regular cinema, but given the circumstances, it's at least some kind of normality at this time and who doesn't need a distraction? Here in Ireland, events like Retro Drive-In Cinemas have become hugely popular, even before social distancing rules were enacted.

While events for Retro Drive-In Cinemas are currently closed due to restrictive measures, it's understood that the service is planning to reopen as soon as possible when able to do so.
