After playing a key part in the story of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange has dropped a trailer for his next outing.
'Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness' is a sequel to the original 2016 'Doctor Strange' and is being directed by the man who arguably invented the modern-day superhero genre, Sam Raimi.
'Multiverse of Madness' looks to be a darker and more cosmic MCU film, with the trailer revealing the existence of an evil Doctor Strange.
The film takes place after the events of the Disney+ show 'Wandavision' which explains the presence of Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch in the plot.
As viewers of the show recall - and spoilers ahead! - the season ends with Scarlet Witch lifting the spell she had placed Westview under and vowed to find more productive avenues for her grief.
'Wandavision' opened the possibility of Scarlet Witch being able to play with different timelines and universes, which makes her a match for Doctor Strange and his brand of time-bending abilities.
The trailer possesses some dark and moody shots that Raimi is known for, and fans are hoping that Raimi's previous dabblings in the horror genre (such as the 'Evil Dead' films and 'Drag Me To Hell') add something different and unique to the Marvel formula.
Doctor Strange says “The Multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little," which opens the door for all sorts of mind-bending superhero action.
The film is due to open on May 6th, which is fittingly 20 years after Raimi released the first 'Spider-Man' film in 2002.
Cumberbatch is currently accumulating major critical acclaim for his role in Jane Campion's Oscar-tipped film 'The Power Of The Dog', and may well end up as an Oscar winner by the time his next outing as Doctor Strange is released.
