Close friends and 'Good Will Hunting' co-stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are once again teaming up.
The upcoming project will focus on Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro, who was instrumental in securing the company's legendary deal with NBA star Michael Jordan.
Damon will portray Vaccaro while Affleck plays Nike co-founder Phil Knight. The story centres around Nike's longshot effort to sign rising superstar basketball player Michael Jordan to its shoe company in the mid-eighties. It was an endorsement that seemed impossible at the time but thanks to the maverick sneaker salesman, would become the most significant relationship between an athletic brand and an athlete.
The story will follow Vaccaro's relentless quest, meeting with Jordan’s parents, and in particular his powerful, dynamic mother, as well as to former coaches, advisors, and friends.
Affleck will direct, and, together with Damon, will write, co-star and produce the untitled sports marketing drama. Amazon Studios and Skydance Sports are currently finalizing a deal for the film.
The two actors are long-time friends. They famously won an Oscar for penning the script of 'Good Will Hunting', which was directed by Gus van Sant.
Affleck and Damon teamed up again last year, with both featuring in Ridley Scott's 'The Last Duel'. The two co-produced, and co-starred in the project alongside Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Harriet Walter. The duo also co-wrote the script alongside Nicole Holofcener.
